Sleep, sugar and survival. This book considers the impact that artificial light has had on humans. The author explores how the body's need for carbohydrates and sugars changes according to the seasons and how the introduction of 'extra' light from firelight, candles and eventually electricity has played havoc with our appetites. In places the science seems a little pseudo-sciencey and the idea that we should be getting 14 hours sleep in the winter is, frankly, unrealistic - but overall an interesting read.
